Combining multiple elements into one unique symbol

CoEmotion creates stories and turns them into books, screenplays, songs, documentaries, and movies. This is an impressively broad field of activity. The customer told me that he liked the idea of having the elements film, music/audio and book/text in the logo. But he admitted that all this would probably not be possible. Well, challenge accepted. ;-) My logo inherits a film strip, it inherits a book (text) and it inherits a musical note (audio/music). Yet it comes with a minimalist and simple icon. The film strip and the book merge in a smart way, while the note is located in the negative space of the open pages. It’s a smart logo that invites viewers to discover what CoEmotion has to offer.

Primal rabbit for a publishing company

This was somewhat whimsical. The publisher deals with historical as well as contemporary fiction, and my mind jumped back around 200,000 years. I was thinking about the primary motion shapes of a rabbit, and arrived to this, which reflects a kind of aesthetic one might have seen in cave paintings. The client went in a different direction, but I like this aesthetic and wish I could experience the kind of visual outlook that represented reality, at the dawn of the age of man, in this manner.

Evocative, dimensional mark for a Microsoft documentation team

Admittedly, the client was seeking playful, and this is something else, which is likely why they chose another direction. But I love this little mark. Monochrome, with shadows cut out, it has strong dimensionality. The project concerns documentation of Microsoft's cloud computing platform. As well as speaking to "apex", I wanted to use dimensionality in the mark to convey levels and layers. It needed to be efficient, and simple, so I create this using two triangles, which along with the meaning of apex convey connectedness and interdependency.

Unique icon for rising baseball star George Valera

This proposal along with many others was ultimately passed over by the design agency hired by baseball star George Valera to create an identity that would cement his rising profile within the sport. But I like it, and didn't like the mark the agency had me recreate instead, so I'm showcasing this design though unused. What interested me when this design emerged is that through a simple reference to the initial of Valera's first name, he could be associated with baseball, and in fact become an iconic representation of it, and synonymous with it. The "g" is amended and becomes a figure swinging a bat, with a ball flying off top-right. Valera himself is a very unassuming figure: humble, and soft-spoken. While the sport is surrounded by the hard edge of a standard sports aesthetic, this mark, while different, spoke more to his character while gently taking possession of baseball itself.
