eBook cover for “Hollow’s End” by Hannibal Adofo

This design was a layout proposal and was never published. It was created for the 4th thriller of the Edgar Vincent series. As a result, it follows the same graphic style of the previous eBooks. In this story the detective is ready to take a vacation, after high-stakes situations and near-death experiences. But those wishes are cut short when his past returns to haunt him, in the form of a Russian mobster. Instead of showing a real scene, I decided to create a representation of the plot in which the story takes place. In the image Edgar Vincent is just ready to enjoy his deserved vacations… when the events of his past come to spoil his plans. That is why he is looking back in the direction of what is a visual representation of Russia. This idea is also associated with the choice of the color Red. The vibrant tone creates impact and a certain mystery, reinforced by the contrast of intense lights and shadows.

Dark thriller based on the abduction of a young girl from a playground in Boston and the subsequent manhunt by the FBI and the girl's mother. One of the requests from the author was to have a dark deep cover with strong colors, but also quite simple. In my design I played with the contrast between the innocence of the child and her teddy bear, with the heavy and stormy clouds that transmit a very dramatic feeling.

This design was a layout proposal and was never published. It was made for the prequel of the “Edgar Vincent Thrillers”. In this story the police partner of Edgar Vincent goes missing. The Chicago PD's homicide division abandons the search when his car is found near Lake Michigan, with a suicide note on the seats and absolutely zero traces of a body. Edgar Vincent, however, cannot sit still while this injustice is carried out in the name of his partner, and decides to hit the mean streets of Chicago to track his buddy down, playing detective against the orders of his superiors, facing Chicago’s more sinister characters in the process. My idea was to transmit that dark and dangerous atmosphere by showing the silhouette of the detective in one of the Chicago streets. The contrast between the shadows and the spots of bright light helped to intensify the drama.

“Meer der Stille”, translated from German as “Sea of Silence”, is a Sci-Fi Thriller set in 2048. An international crew embarks on a flight to Mars, when they’re awaken by the emergency protocol. The chaos and destruction reign on board, making impossible to complete the mission to their final destination... or even to return to Earth. The journey into nothingness begins. Apart from requiring a spaceship with a specific shape, damaged and with visible signs that would represent the unfortunate events, the client also wanted to convey the impression that the ship was drifting and completely lost in space. Therefore, I decided to place it in a certain way (in the diagonal) in order to give a sense of instability, to better represent its critical situation while is being destroyed and outside of its route. The effects that I gave to the title also reinforce that destruction, where the metal appears scratched and burned. This design was a layout proposal and was never published.

This design was a layout proposal and was never published. It was made for a fictional story about the mystery of Edgar Allan Poe's death in 1849. I've recreated the atmosphere of that time, not only through the costumes of the characters but also with the dark and mysterious environment. The contrast between the intense lights and the shadows transmits the dramatic feeling that was required.

This design was created for a science fiction novel, set about a dozen years in the future. The diagonal form of the buildings gives a great depth to the cover, also helped by the running man and the strong light at the end of the street. This contrast between zones of light and shadow was made to create impact and transmit a sense of mystery. Since the story has to do with the malicious, mesmerizing effect of a presence on social media, the author wanted to include some kind of electronic device (mobile, tablet or computer). However, I also added some details as a watermark, like the circular grid with the zero and one numerals, in order to have a certain "technological atmosphere". Another of the requests was to create the design with a blue/gray palette with gold highlights, since this is a color combination that can attract the public of this book genre.

David Butler, a high-ranking diplomat living in Brussels, receives a call from the daughter of the deceased French artist André Lefevre, whom Butler knew in Ireland and whose work is about to have a major exhibition in Paris. An article by French journalist Eduard Faure has been published in Images de Paris implying that Lefevre seduced and was responsible for the drowning death of Delia Hartney, a Knockbui teen who posed for some of Lefevre’s most famous portraits—and that an unnamed boy who bears a resemblance to the young David may have been his accomplice. Lefevre’s daughter wants assurance that her father—who died in a mysterious fire shortly after the girl’s drowning—was not involved. David seeks out those who remember that far-off summer and begins to uncover the truth of what happened.

This is a thriller book series, which stories take place in the town of Hollow Green. The detective Edgar Vincent is the main character that investigates several crimes. In book 1, “Hollow Green", young women are murdered during a snowy winter. One of the victims is found in a colonial old house, which can be seen as a central detail in the design. The cover was made to catch the curiosity of the viewers and to transmit a sense of mystery and fear, but without revealing too much of the story. In book 2, “Hollow’s Eve”, the brutal murder of a young man is committed in the woods. While investigating, the detective’s fingerprints are found riddled throughout the crime scene. This is one of the most important details of the story that will influence the course of the events. That’s why it was included a fingerprint in a large scale that merges with the background. This design for book 2 is a layout proposal and has never been published.

This design was a layout proposal and was never published. The cover was created for an Urban Fantasy Serial. This is a story about a man who is a member of a motorcycle club that hunts supernatural creatures and eliminates them. The graphic effects on the main title make the connection with the chrome of the motorcycles, as well as the background texture lead us to the black leather jackets.

Identity distortion for The Light Side of Darkness

I did this only for fun; the book is targeted to an audience that this wouldn't fit. I just liked the title, and the fact that the book is written by a 12-year-old. The book is about a girl who in darkness becomes a monster. She tries to hide this fact, but falls under the watch of shadowy secret agents. Eventually, friends and family rescue her, and it transpires that they are all monsters, too. In the cover, I just wanted to represent identity distortion. Similar to another cover I did a while back. Maybe it's how I feel, oftentimes.

Generative glitch art for psychological thriller

A woman loved a man to obsession. He left her for another. When he is discovered dead in the woods behind her home, she becomes the prime suspect. Yet she would never hurt him, or anything. You have to believe her. Using Processing app, I created this arresting glitch art image of a woman. First, I wanted to give reference to the psychological state of obsession. But what I really want to do is to create a question mark as to whether this is a depiction of an inner state of psychopathy, or is how others came to view her, as she protests innocence, despite her proximity to a murder.

Kingsley: First Act (Character-Focused, Movie Poster Style)

This is a full wraparound book cover I illustrated for “Kingsley: First Act” by Máximo César Castellanos. The client requested a cover in the style of a vintage movie poster, featuring seven key characters dressed in 1930s fashion. Each character was designed and rendered based on client-provided sketches, then fully colored and illustrated with a semi-realistic style to bring them to life. I carefully arranged them in a central composition to reflect their roles and personalities, while using a red-to-black gradient background to enhance the drama and vintage tone. The typography was chosen to evoke a theatrical and classic feel, with gold lettering for a premium touch. The project also included spine and back cover layout, with a clean and print-ready final file. This kind of project is ideal for authors or publishers who want their characters to stand out and instantly communicate genre, tone, and personality — all at first glance.
